The World Summit on Accessible Tourism in Brussels will help change event venues policies for disabled participants

Events free of barriers for all participants

Inclusion is one of the core values of our Brussels Special Venues: Welcoming an event that is free of barriers for all participants, so that they can participate fully.

But beyond that, we support the idea and the belief of the Summit organisers and speakers: event venues around the world can significantly improve the accessibility of destinations. The slightest initiative in one place is often an oil spill and will give the impetus to inspire other actors (hotels, public and private transport companies,… or even cities) to do the same, thereby increasing accessibility!

A few years ago already, Brussels Special Venues has changed its website and added a dedicated tab for event venues  “ACCESSIBLE TO ALL. Hence, the research of special venues with well-equipped facilities meeting specific requirements for disabled delegates is simplified. Check it out: https://venues.be/page/accessible-to-all

It is now almost 90 % of Brussels Special Venues (38 on 43 venues) that propose well-equipped facilities also meeting specific requirements for participants with disabilities and any potential access problems, including wheelchair users.

The Summit Organisers and The Egg Brussels have made all necessary adjustments to welcome, help and accompany participants

Over 400 participants from 42 different countries gathered under one roof at the World Summit on Accessible Tourism ‘Destinations For All 2018’ that took place on 1-2 October 2018 at the Egg Brussels. The Summit in its second edition exceeded all possible expectations of accessible tourism’s field. On 2 days, participants shared best practices as much possible with the tourism sector in order to consolidate a global network of destinations for all, accessible to people with specific needs.

On this occasion, the Summit organisers and The Egg Brussels have made all necessary adjustments to welcome, help and accompany participants with disabilities and any potential access problems:

Wide passageways, short distances between the different Summit areas, ramps, spaces reserved for wheelchair users, PRM supervisor, trained volunteers, parking spaces will be reserved for PRM, ‘kiss & drive’ (drop-off) area, consistent signage, accessible buffets and tables, toilets for PRM, ability to recharge your electric wheelchair, programme in braille, sign language, and much more…

Many things had to be done, and considered!
